Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who is also the incharge of state Information department, Saturday faced an embarrassing situation in front of large gathering of people in Audar village of Anantnag as public address system installed by the state Information department developed a technical snag and could not be rectified in time.
After learning about the technical snag Chief Minister patiently waited for about 15 minutes but as officials of the state Information department failed to rectify the snag Omar was left with no option but to leave without addressing the public gathering.
Omar was scheduled to address the public gathering in Audar after the foundation stone laying ceremony of bridge and various developmental projects in Bijbehara.
Disappointed with the poor state of affairs as Omar was leaving the venue along with other cabinet colleagues and party MLC Bashir Veeri local party workers and villagers started slogan shouting against the Information department.
Soon after the departure of Chief Minister angry crowd pounced on the officers of the state Information department and manhandled them. Cameramen of TV channels were also attacked by the angry crowd,eyewitnesses reports said.
They reportedly ransacked the make shift dais and reportedly destroyed the public address system in protest.
Moving out of the venue of the rally the NC workers and others pelted stones and shouted slogans against the Information department.
Workers belonging to the rival PDP also raised slogans in support of PDP as people dispersed without listening to the speech of Chief Minister.
Deputy Commissioner Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone clarified that the public address system had developed some technical snag before the speech of Chief Minister.
According to official sources four employees of the department including district Information officer Tanveer Ahmad were placed under suspension.
