No one is checking the tickets on board Katra bound DMU, or at the Katra railway station
The train services to Katra were launched with much fanfare on Friday but in the last three days not even once the ticket collectors have bothered to check the railway tickets of passengers traveling in large numbers from Jammu.
Unlike all other trains the DMU coaches traveling on the route have not been provided with adequate staff to listen to the grievances of the passengers and even to check their tickets. Interestingly, no Ticket checker has been seen spotted standing at the exit gates of the Katra railway station or at Jammu railway station who can check the valid tickets.
If this kind of laxity is allowed to continue for some more time soon the railway authorities would come out with an argument that it is not earning enough money to sustain the cost of running the services on the crucial route.
Questions have been raised about the level of preparedness of the railway authorities have have failed to appoint adequate staff to supervise the routine operations.
Even the passengers amenities at the Katra railway station have been selectively kept open at appointed hours instead of 24×7 operations. The escalators fitted at the railway station are made operational only at the time of arrival and departure of trains and if there are some pilgrims arriving at the railway platform they cannot use the facility as it remains shut down.
Even the IRCTC run canteen located on the first floor of the model station building is not catering to the needs of the passengers as per their own menu card. Several items listed on the menu have not been offered to the passengers, claimed aggrieved passengers.
