Train to Katra: New DMU Coaches vanished in only 3 days?

Local Passengers vs Pilgrims going on in the absence of New DMU Pair

Only three days have passed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated train services to Katra and the new DMU bogies, decorated for the official flag off ceremony, have simply vanished.

Barring Friday when school children had embarked on their life’s maiden journey the passengers/pilgrims travelling on the route have been doing so in old and worn out coaches of DMU running between Udhampur and Pathankot for past several years.

In the absence of new coaches pressed in to service the pilgrims traveling on the old coaches have been facing lot of hardships.

Since Mata Vaishno Devi bound pilgrims arrive here from distant locations they are in the habit of using mobile toilets on board rail bogies but DMU coaches have no such facility.

Secondly, the rush of daily passengers on the Jammu-Udhampur route has been posing lot of hardships to both the categories of passengers.

Since the railway authorities are currently running three DMU trains between Jammu and Katra it is proving to be insufficient keeping in  view the peak rush of pilgrims.

In addition the daily passengers have been seen jostling with pilgrims at the time of boarding and stepping out of the train.

The local GRP jawans have been facing lot of hardships as rush of pilgrims in the DMU train is leaving no scope for local passengers to find comfortable berth or even small corner in the DMU coach to complete their journey.

Several daily passengers have been heard cursing their fate as they are not getting opportunity to travel home after spending long working hours in their respective offices.

The pilgrims on the other hand are still waiting for introduction of new coaches so that the rush of pilgrims is evenly divided and every one can enjoy smooth journey to the Katra township and to their work place.
