Third State Level ToT on J&K RTI Act addressed by Wajahat Habibullah

The commonwealth Human Rights Initiative organized in collaboration with Sangarsh RTI movement Jammu, a two day training of trainers programme at Institute of Engineers, Gandhi Nagar on the J&K RTI ACT 2009.

The purpose of the ToT was to prepare trainers and encourage the use of the J&K RTI Act. Over a period of two days, representatives of CHRI and Sangarsh RTI movement explained to the participants all the provisions of J&K RTI ACT and rules. The explanation was followed by discussion on the questions and issues raised by the participants.

TOT CHRIOn the basis of training the participants prepared RTI applications in a drafting exercise for a practical understanding of the act.

The workshop was attended by people from all walks of life such as academia, students, senior citizens, government servants and active users of the J&K RTI Act.

Based on the discussion and training, resolutions were drafted with the consensus of the participants. The resolution identified the problems in the implementation of the act in the state and the best possible solutions available under the act and rules.

Hon’ble Wajahat Habibullah , Chairperson, Minority Commission of India, was the Guest of Honour for the workshop. After the valedictory session Shri Habibullah addressed specific queries of the participants regarding implementation of the act in the state.

This training programme shall be followed by the launch of a User Guide on the J&K RTI Act. CHRI has prepared a user guide which is first of its kind for the State. Mr. Habibullah will be the Chief Guest for the book launched on 30th of may 2013 at 10 am at Institute of Engineers, Gandhi Nagar.
