Terror threat looms large over Amarnath Yatra?

Omar Abdullah has done it again. A day after Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde made it clear that the annual sushil kumarAmarnath pilgrimage  starting from June 28 is facing a threat from militants Omar on Thursday claimed the headlines ‘Amarnath Yatra attack feared‘ are a gross exaggeration.

Interestingly, before Union Home Minister it was Lt Gen KT Parnaik, GOC-IN-C of Northern Command headquarters who had claimed that intelligence agencies have received inputs that some  of the militant groups were planning to disrupt the yatra. Lt Gen Parnaik had also claimed that the security forces have launched operation ‘Shiva’ to ensure smooth conduct of the pilgrimage and ensure fool proof security to the pilgrims across various base camps and the entire route of the yatra.

Ignoring these public statements J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Thursday shared his view point on the micro blogging social networking site saying ,”So while we will take all the regular precautions with a multi-layer security grid ‘yatra attack feared‘ headlines are a gross exaggeration”.

OmarGiving reference of the Unified High Command meeting which was chaired by Omar himself in Srinagar Omar also tweeted, “In fact I asked a pointed question about whether the threats this year were higher than previous years & the answer was a categorical no“.

He also wrote, “Talk about confusion within intelligence agencies NO WHERE in the UHQ meeting yesterday was a mention made of an increased threat yatra.”

On the other hand when Union Home Minister was asked to comment on the intelligence reports he responded by saying, “there is terror threat to Amarnath Yatra.”

The Home Minister said the government was taking precaution and sending additional forces to ensure safety and security of all pilgrims visiting the cave shrine.”All efforts will be made to ensure security of every pilgrim,” he said.
