CRPF and NGOs organised Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan in Udhampur- Clean India

After almost a week-long cleanliness drive in central government offices led by Cabinet ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wielded a broom on Thursday launching country’s biggest ever cleanliness drive “Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan” from Rajpath. And at the same day, On 2nd October 2014 at around 11:30 am, when we reached Slathia Chowk, near DC Office Udhampur. We felt very good seeing some volunteers from CRPF and NGOs were clearing up the mess which was lying there for an year. The smell coming out of this garbage was unbearable, even then the volunteers were clearing all this garbage was worth applauding.  But when we started following the vehicle carrying all this garbage collected by these volunteers, we found that all the …

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead from the front tomorrow as the government gears up to launch the biggest ever cleanliness and sanitation drive in the country. A ‘clean India’ by 2019 when the nation will mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is the vision driving the mission. Its launch on Oct 2 has a lot of significance as Father of the Nation had a penchant for cleanliness in his personal habits and sought to promote it in his environs in every way. Now, PM Modi intends to involve every citizen in the task of cleanliness. And at the same time, there is a town in the state of Jammu Kashmir, Udhampur where the concerned authorities picks up the …

Why Railway Engineers permitted Shri Shakti Express to run on track minus Banker Engine on hilly track?

Despite according top priority to the newly launched rail link to Katra  it appears the field engineers remained casual when it came to addressing the basic requirements of a VIP train ferrying pilgrims to the base camp of holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. On Wednesday when Shri Shakti Express was stuck inside tunnel no 27  the railway engineers realised their folly of not attaching a ‘banker’ engine to power the fully AC train on the hilly track. A banker engine is traditionally attached with the train on hilly track to power the train. Inside reports have now revealed if Shri Shakti Express had been attached with ‘banker’ engine the railway  authorities would have not faced the embarrassing situation …

Train to Katra: Railways start losing revenue from Day one

Katra Vaishno Devi Train

The train services to Katra were launched with much fanfare on Friday but in the last three days not even once the ticket collectors have bothered to check the railway tickets of passengers traveling in large numbers from Jammu. Unlike all other trains the DMU coaches traveling on the route have not been provided with adequate staff to listen to the grievances of the passengers and even to check their tickets. Interestingly, no Ticket checker has been seen spotted standing at the exit gates of the Katra railway station or at Jammu railway station  who can check the valid tickets. If this kind of laxity is allowed to continue for some more time soon the railway authorities would come out …

Train to Katra: New DMU Coaches vanished in only 3 days?

Katra Vaishno Devi Train

Only three days have passed when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated train services to Katra and the new DMU bogies, decorated for the official flag off ceremony, have simply vanished. Barring Friday when school children had embarked on their life’s maiden journey the passengers/pilgrims travelling on the route have been doing so in old and worn out coaches of DMU running between Udhampur and Pathankot for past several years. In the absence of new coaches pressed in to service the pilgrims traveling on the old coaches have been facing lot of hardships. Since Mata Vaishno Devi bound pilgrims arrive here from distant locations they are in the habit of using mobile toilets on board rail bogies but DMU coaches have …
