The electric trains would soon start running between Jammu-Pathankot section as the Commssioner Railway Safety Tuesday gave its much awaited nod to the railway engineers to start the operations. The successful trial run of the train was first conducted on June 20 and on Tuesday Commissioner Railway Safety RK Kardam too gave its green signal to the ambitious project. According to official sources the electric engine is expected to power the express train to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra railway station in the summers of 2015 by June end. Why Railway Engineers permitted Shri Shakti Express to run on track minus Banker Engine on hilly track?
Despite according top priority to the newly launched rail link to Katra it appears the field engineers remained casual when it came to addressing the basic requirements of a VIP train ferrying pilgrims to the base camp of holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. On Wednesday when Shri Shakti Express was stuck inside tunnel no 27 the railway engineers realised their folly of not attaching a ‘banker’ engine to power the fully AC train on the hilly track. A banker engine is traditionally attached with the train on hilly track to power the train. The train services to Katra were launched with much fanfare on Friday but in the last three days not even once the ticket collectors have bothered to check the railway tickets of passengers traveling in large numbers from Jammu. Unlike all other trains the DMU coaches traveling on the route have not been provided with adequate staff to listen to the grievances of the passengers and even to check their tickets. Interestingly, no Ticket checker has been seen spotted standing at the exit gates of the Katra railway station or at Jammu railway station who can check the valid tickets.
