Highlights of Prime Minister’s development package for Jammu and Kashmir


The Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, today announced a Rs. 80,000 crore development package for Jammu and Kashmir. Following are the highlights of the package-  Flood relief, reconstruction and flood management – Rs. 7854 crore This includes monetary help to people for reconstruction of damaged houses and for infrastructure; restoration of livelihood for traders and small businessmen; a plan for comprehensive flood management of the River Jhelum and its tributaries; and Jhelum-Tawi flood reconstruction project; Road and highway projects – Rs. 42611 crore This includes construction of Zojila tunnel; semi ring roads in Jammu and Srinagar; projects under Bharat Mala for better connectivity; and upgradation of important highway and other projects in the State. Katra solar project to save ₹ 1 crore energy bill for railways

Pitching for green power, the Railways have set up 1 megawatt solar power plant at Katra station, a move that can save up to ₹ 1 crore annually on energy bills and also significant reduction of carbon dioxide at rail premises. Pro-Pakistan leaders detained ahead of Geelani’s rally


Several separatist leaders were allegedly detained ahead of hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani’s planned rally coinciding with that of Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 7. The moderate faction of Hurriyat, led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Sunday extended its support to Geelani’s rally. Pakistan PM to raise Kashmir with Obama

Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will raise the Kashmir issue with US President Barack Obama when he meets him on Thursday, its envoy told separatist Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq. “I was told by the Pakistan High Commissioner that the Pakistan Prime Minister would be raking up the Kashmir issue with Obama (on October 22) during his visit to the US,” said the Mirwaiz who had an hour-long meeting with the envoy Abdul Basit here yesterday.
