Mehbooba Mufti seeks effective implementation of supernumerary quota for J&K students


Fresh instructions issued to all universities in this regard: MHRD Member Parliament and PDP President, Mehbooba Mufti today sought the intervention of the Union Minister for Human Resource Development (MHRD) in the effective implementation of UGC scheme regarding admission of J&K students in the recognized colleges and universities of the country under supernumerary quota. Over Rs 1,600 crore spent on relief, rehab of Kashmiri migrants this year

An amount of Rs 1663.92 crore has been incurred on relief and rehabilitation of Kashmiri migrants till September this year under Security Related Expenditure (SRE) of Home Ministry, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday. The expenditure incurred by the Jammu and Kashmir government on relief and rehabilitation of the migrants is being reimbursed by the Home Ministry under SRE (Relief and Rehabilitation), Minister of State for Home Haribhai Parathibhai Chaudhary said while giving details of packages of the Government from time to time for Kashmiri migrants, who left the Valley with the onset of militancy in early 1990’s. “The government has incurred a total expenditure of Rs 1,663.92 crore under SRE (R&R) till September 2015 for relief and rehabilitation …

BSF adopts ‘winter strategy’ to check infiltration


BSF has put in place its “winter strategy”, which includes deployment of devices that ensure visibility in fog, to prevent infiltration as it apprehends that terrorists may turn to International Border (IB) to sneak into India as the LoC would be inaccessible due to snow. The steps to beef up the security along the IB have been taken after intelligence reports suggested that 8-10 militants have been brought close to the IB on the Pakistani side by ISI to carry out attacks in Jammu and Kashmir with the help of terror groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM).
