Due to shortage of fuel Border Security Force (BSF) has requested media persons in Jammu to make their own arrangements to reach Chmaliyal border village to participate and cover annual mela on June 26. On Tuesday afternoon Jammu based media persons received an invitation on behalf of DIG (G) Dharmendra Pareek requesting the media persons to reach Chamliyal on June 26 before 8.00 a.m. The BSF authorities also expressed their inability to provide conveyance facilities to the media persons to reach the border area. BSF detects portion of the tunnel in Samba sector

The tunnel was first detected by BSF with help of Local farmers in July 2012 Alert BSF jawans Friday detected some of the portion of the cross border tunnel near Chilari post, close to the International border, in Samba. Soon after the detection the local BSF commanders alerted their senior colleagues in Jammu frontier and they immediately briefed Director General BSF Devender Kumar Pathak, currently on a three day visit to Jammu frontier . 50 year old Sahib Singh, 24 years old Gurpreet Singh and 35 year old Kamaljeet Singh were keen on returning home in the wee hours of Friday. Cross border firing along IB triggers decline in Border Tourism


Ever since cross border firing has engulfed border villages along the International border in Jammu the average foot fall of tourists who visited Octroi post and surrounding areas have fallen drastically. According to official sources, “the tourist traffic to Octroi post is almost zero or negligent” these days owing to prevailing security situation. A senior officer of the tourism department said, the tour operators who ferry tourists to different places have for the time being excluded border areas keeping in view the safety of the tourists. “We are not booking tourists for border areas visit for last two weeks”, a tour operator said.
