Pitching for green power, the Railways have set up 1 megawatt solar power plant at Katra station, a move that can save up to ₹ 1 crore annually on energy bills and also significant reduction of carbon dioxide at rail premises. In keeping with the motto of ‘reduce, reuse and recycle’ for sustainable development and as a significant way to thwart climate change impact, we have been undertaking several green initiatives including the installation of the 1 megawatt solar power plant at Katra station, said a senior Northern Railway official. Five hurt in clashes at Army recruitment rally in Reasi

Five people including a policeman and a woman were injured in clashes during an Army recruitment rally in Jammu and Kashmir’s Reasi district on Monday. The chaos broke out during the Territorial Army recruitment rally at Subsidiary Training Centre (STC) in Talwara belt of Reasi district as aspirants rushed towards the entrance in large numbers while those rejected started pushing each other on the way out, police said. Police resorted to mild cane charge as the crowd clashed with them in which five persons including a cop and a woman suffered minor injuries, they said, adding that the situation was brought under control and the screening of aspirants is underway. Bending its knees before the hate mongers the Jammu and Kashmir govt on Thursday  decided against allowing a Kashmiri Pandits’ group to take a yatra to glacial spring of Kaunsar Nag in south Kashmir. A handful of separatist leaders, who are fast losing their popular base and some local residents in Kulgam area had objected to the start of yatra via its traditional route. Train to Katra: Railways start losing revenue from Day one

The train services to Katra were launched with much fanfare on Friday but in the last three days not even once the ticket collectors have bothered to check the railway tickets of passengers traveling in large numbers from Jammu. Unlike all other trains the DMU coaches traveling on the route have not been provided with adequate staff to listen to the grievances of the passengers and even to check their tickets. Interestingly, no Ticket checker has been seen spotted standing at the exit gates of the Katra railway station or at Jammu railway station  who can check the valid tickets. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Udhampur-Katra rail link by flagging of the Vaishno Devi Express. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today flagged  off Katra-Udhampur train, the first train from Katra railway  station, facilitating pilgrims to visit Mata Vaishno Devi shrine, located in the Trikuta hills in Reasi  district.The Prime Minister was accompanied by state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Railways Minister D V Sadananda Gowda.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday inaugurated the Udhampur-Katra rail link by flagging of the Vaishno Devi Express. The 25 km stretch from Udhapmur to Katra has cost Rs 1100 crore and has taken nearly 12 years to be made. The train will pass through 10 tunnels covering a distance of 10.9 km. All tunnels are illuminated and the longer tunnels have been provided state of art ventilation and systems for safety and rescue. The tunnel number 23 is the longest on the section having a length of 3.120 km.

Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board authorities readying new helipad for pilgrims

  Mata Vaishno Devi bound pilgrims would soon get the option of choosing their aerial route to reach Mata Vaishno Devi bhawan. On Friday the shrine board authorities conducted a trial run by landing helicopters at the newly constructed  helipad near Panchhi view point enroute new yatra track. The shrine board authorities have not announced any formal date of launch of services on the new route pending formal clearance from the DGCA for starting the heli services on the new route. PM is likely to inaugurate the railway line later this month Ahead of the inauguration of Udhampur -Katra rail section in Jammu and Kashmir, a train on a trial run reached Katra, the base camp of Mata Vaishnodevi shrine. The train from New Delhi on Wednesday reached holy town of Katra ahead of the inauguration of the Udhampur -Katra rail section in the state. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the railway line later this month. A devotee of Mata Vaishno Devi, 35 year old Raj Bala  hailing from Meerut sunday afternoon climbed the 13 km trek with great difficulty. While she was standing in the queue to perform darshan she experienced labour pain and before doctors from the nearby dispensary were rushed to the spot women standing in the queue helped her deliver a healthy boy near gate no 3 in the bhawan shrine.
