Prime Minister designate Narendra Modi today came in for praise from Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other leaders from the state for inviting Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony on May 26. “Excellent move by Narendra Modi to invite SAARC leaders, especially Pak PM for his swearing in. In an apparent course correction after the National Conference’s debacle in the recent Lok Sabha polls, Jammu and Kashmir government today approved scrapping of the much-criticised new recruitment policy which was implemented two years ago. The recruitment policy was rolled back during a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah here. Omar had announced day before yesterday that he is going to produce a proposal before the Cabinet to scrap the ‘New Recruitment Policy’ with an immediate effect. J&K Govt lifted 4 year old ban on SMS

The State Government today lifted the four-year-old ban on Short Messaging Services (SMS) on all pre-paid cell phone subscribers in the State. “On the instructions of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the restriction on SMS to the pre-paid cell phones in the State has been revoked,” an official spokesman said. He said the subscribers of pre-paid cell phones had made requests to the Chief Minister in this regard and he issued instructions to the agencies concerned to lift the said restriction. In June 2010, the State Government had imposed a ban on the SMS in the State following a widespread unrest in the valley. However, six months later the Government lifted the ban on all post-paid mobile phone subscribers but refrained …

After facing a humiliating drubbing by National Conference, it seems to have humbled Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. A disappointed Omar on Sunday tweeted that he would analyse how things could be changed to boost the party’s poll fortunes in the upcoming Assembly elections.
