In the wake of Kishtwar violence on August 9, 2013 Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had promised speedy justice and time bound inquiry to punish the real culprits responsible for the flare up of violence in which three civilians lost their lives and several others were injured. Commission of inquiry set up to enquire violence arson in Kishtwar: Ali Mohd. Sagar

Government vide SRO-375 dated 23rd August has set up a commission of enquiry headed by a retired Judge of Hon’ble High Court to enquire into the circumstances which led to the violence and arson and the consequent loss of life and property in District Kishtwar and to enquire into the administrative lapses, if any, while handling the situation. The commission will also to fix the responsibility of the persons, involved in acts of violence, arson and the loss of life and property. Allegedly beaten up by Police in Kishtwar, minor boy lands in emergency ward of GMC

The Jammu and Kashmir police has once again landed themselves in a piquant situation. Late Wednesday evening, a 16 year old minor boy hailing from Begana area in Kishtwar was admitted in the Government Medical college hospital after he was allegedly beaten up by the police in Kishtwar. The family members of the minor boy has alleged that the police confined their son illegally in their custody for six long days and tortured him in connection with the ongoing probe in to the Kishtwar violence incidents. Minority community in Kishtwar continue to observe shutdown in protest

Despite brokering peace in Kishtwar on Wednesday the state government Thursday failed to instill enough confidence among the members of the minority community to throw open their closed down shops for last 14 days. Ironically, immediately after the curfew restrictions were lifted at 8.00 a.m the shops belonging to  the majority community were thrown open and markets were abuzz with activity. In total contrast the markets dominated by the members of the minority community remained closed in silent protest. The minority community members were unhappy with the approach of the district administration in resolving the stalemate.
