Unprecedent voter turnout in Udhampur LS seat, 24% hike from last time

 Around 69% electorate cast their vote in today’s polling for Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency, which concluded this evening. This is about 24% more than the polling percentage of last Parliamentary election. 103 years old Massu Ram was the first one, on Thursday to cast vote in Hiranagar and set the trend for higher voter turnout today. Till 3 pm there was 61% polling in Udhampur Parliamentary Constituency. Reasi district crossed 70% mark, heavy turnout in Urban centres of Udhampur, Kathua. Massu Ram was among the first voters at the polling station number 67 in Hiranagar town of Kathua district that falls under the Udhampur Parliamentary constituency in Jammu and Kashmir today. Massu Ram also told reporters, “This could be my last vote. I cannot afford to let it go waste.”

India is witnessing elections in the maximum number of seats in a single phase today as polling is going on in 121 seats across 12 states. Of the total seats, Congress has 36 seats while its main challenger BJP has 40 seats. Fidayeen Attack victim given tearful adieu in RS Pura

Sardar Tarsem Singh, killed by a group of fidayeen in Janglote area of Kathua on Friday before attacking the rear gate of the army camp was cremated in his native village and given tearful adieu by his close family members and thousands of local villagers in RS Pura area. Tarsem Singh was one of the five occupants of the ill fated Bolero hijacked by the fidayeen from near Dayalachak on Friday.Tarsem Singh who may have drove fidayeen up to Janglote was found dead with his hands tied down near Langate Industrial area.  Tarsems’ body was handed over to the family in the morning and later he was given tearful adieu in his native village. Tributes paid to martyr Lance Naik V Anthony Nirmal Viji of Artillery Regiment-Kathua Attack

A befitting tribute was paid to martyr Lance Naik V Anthony Nirmal Viji of Artillery Regiment, in a wreath laying ceremony conducted as per the highest traditions of Indian Army, at Pathankot Air Field. The wreath laying ceremony was attended by Lt Gen Praveen Bakshi, General Officer Commanding, Rising Star Corps and other military officials. The mortal remains of Lance Naik Anthony were flown to his native place Mugiyur in Vellupuram Distt of Tamil Nadu in an IAF aircraft. Lance Naik Anthony was martyred while fighting bravely against the terrorists, who had attacked the Army Camp at Janglot, on Friday. All the three terrorists were killed in the joint Army and Police operation.Two civilians were also killed in militants attack.
