Omar bats for the return of Salal and Dulhasti power projects to J&K from NHPC

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today strongly advocated for the return of Salal and Dulhasti power projects to the state from NHPC. “The Rangarajan Committee has recommended certain hydroelectric power projects be returned to the state free of cost. We reiterate this demand and request that requisite compensation to NHPC for such projects be paid by the Central government,” he said addressing the joint meeting of 14th Finance Commission and state government officers here. The Chief Minister made a strong case for raising free power quota from existing 12 per cent to 30 per cent in all Centre sector Hydroelectric Projects (HEPs) in the state. Governor N N Vohra, Chairman, alongwith Rakesh Kumar Gupta, CEO, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, conducted an aerial survey of the Shri Amarnathji Yatra area along the Chandanwari, Sheshnag, Panjtarni on the Pahalgam axis and Sangam and Baltal on the Baltal axis, to gain first hand impression about the existing snow accumulation levels. It was observed that the entire Yatra area from Chandanwari onwards on the Pahalgam axis and from  Domel onwards from the Baltal axis has very heavy snow accumulation. As almost all the prefabricated and permanent structures are still buried under snow upto roof level it is assessed that the entire area is still 8-10 feet of snow. 31550 voters exercised NOTA in J&K

On Friday when Lok Sabha results were declared and  winning candidates were celebrating their victories official sources revealed a sizeable number of 31550 voters across Jammu and Kashmir had exercised the option of NOTA (None of the Above) during the polls. The highest number of 10,478 voters across Udhampur-Doda Lok Sabha seat pressed NOTA button instead of supporting a particular candidate. Voters in Anantnag which saw close contest between PDP’s Mehbooba Mufti and NC’s Mehboob Beg came second as 5936 voters opted for NOTA.
