‘Earthquake Tourism’ is fine but what happened to the distribution of relief material to the needy and poor in Doda


Between May 1 and June 9 a large army of political leaders from both the centre and the state have visited the quake hit areas of erstwhile Doda district but till date the poor and the needy survivors are waiting for the distribution of relief material. An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted the Doda region in  which 3 people were killed, over 70 were injured  and at least over 70,000 structures including large number of govt school buildings and health centres suffered damages. Ironically, till date the state and the centre govt have failed to reach out to the people on ground zero. PDP patron  and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohd. Sayeed is very well known for his political etiquette. In his long political career he has earned many friends and despite having divergent view point on  contentious issues he has nurtured all his friends even during difficult days. Jammu asks: What is stopping Omar Abdullah from compensating next of kin of Chamel Singh?

What is stopping  J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah from compensating next of kin of Chamel Singh, an Indian prisoner brutally murdered inside Kot Lakhpat Central jail in Lahore on January 15, 2013?    This significant question is being asked by a cross section of people especially from Jammu region and few like minded people in Kashmir valley especially after the state government of Punjab announced its decision to adequately compensate another Indian prisoner Sarabjeet Singh, after he too was attacked  inside Pakistan jail and later succumbed to his fatal injuries.   In contrast the state government headed by Omar Abdullah in J&K is yet to announce even single paisa compensation for the next kin of Chamel Singh.   The attitude …

Ahead of Local Bodies Polls,Politics heating up in J&K

Ahead of the local bodies polls,scheduled to be held by June end this year, the political parties in the state have started measuring swords to cut their political rivals to size and consolidate their vote bank ahead of the 2014 Assembly polls. Omar yet to hold monthly Cabinet meeting in any Remote District of Jammu Division

Ten months ago Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had proudly announced on the micro blogging site that he will take his cabinet to Tangdhar in North Kashmir. “This week I take the Cabinet to Tangdar in North Kashmir. Once a month we will meet in a remote part of the state. Gurez, Machil and Keran”,Omar had twitted on May 26,2012.
