The 65th Republic Day was celebrated with gaiety, enthusiasm and national spirit at District, Tehsil and Block levels besides in educational institutions and social organizations in Udhampur, today.
The main function was held in the premises of PG Degree College for Boys, where the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand was the chief guest. He hoisted the National flag at Udhampur, inspected parade and took salute at an impressive march past presented by 40 contingents drawn from Police, CRPF, Forest Protection Force, NCC and educational institutions. The students also presented physical display and scintillating cultural programmes which got loud applause of the audience present on the occasion.
MLA Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia, DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Gareeb Dass, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Mrs. Yasha Mudgal, SSP Udhampur, Mohd. Suleman Choudhary, IAS Probationer, Principal of the Colleges, District Officers, prominent citizens, students and people in large number were present on the occasion.
Congratulating mammoth gathering who had turned up at the venue of Republic Day function, the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand said that the Constitution of independent India came into existence on this day in 1950 which provides equal fundamental rights to every citizens of the country irrespective of caste, creed, colour or religion. He said the public in general have the important role in maintaining unity in diversity and help in boosting developmental activities to usher in an era of prosperity in every field.
The Dy CM said that during the present coalition Government the State has made big strides in every sphere of life like water, power supply, Education, employment, medicare facilities, road connectivity etc to make the people of this state prosperous, happy and economically sound.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that Tourism Industry has made tremendous development in the state with the sincere and dedicated efforts of the coalition Government, adding the united efforts are needed to keep the pace of development registered during last 5 years.
Tara Chand said that agriculture and horticulture continues to be the most vital sector of state’s economy and the coalition government is striving hard to promote these sectors. Underlining education as priority area of the government, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand said that focused attention is being paid to upgrade infrastructure in the sector and to equip education institutes with most modern facilities. He said education has a vital role to play in enlightening the society as well as individuals. Flagship programmes like SSA and RMSA would go a long to improve the facilities provided in schools all across the state, he added.
He appreciated the good will gesture of the UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh and Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad in extending liberal funding to satiate development needs of J&K state. He said the four lane NH-IA project has come up in the state while Udhampur-Katra Vaishno Devi Rail Link is being inaugurated very soon.
On the occasion, the Dy CM also distributed prizes to the outstanding students for their excellent in sports and NCC.
Later, the District Administration hosted At Home at Multi Purpose Hall of P. G College Udhampur which was attended by the Chief Guest, Dy CM, Tara Chand and other senior officer of Police & Civil Administration and Prominent Citizens of the district.
