National Conference President and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah Monday expressed hope that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi would take over the responsibility as quickly as possible and guide this country forward.
Dr Abdullah was reacting to the statement of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that Rahul is an ideal choice for the post of PM after 2014 polls.
Commenting on holding parleys with Pakistan Dr Abdullah said Pakistan must try and control ‘Jehadi’ forces in their own territory and unless that is done, to move forward is very difficult.
Speaking to media persons on the side lines of a function in Jammu University campus Dr Abdullah maintained no problem between India and Pakistan can be solved without dialogue.
He said dialogue is essential but then Pakistan must also try and see that the violations do not take place and their territory is not used by terrorists to create tragedies for India.
He said as long as terrorists are there dialogue has hardly any meaning and that also creates a misunderstanding.
Expressing concern over the communal violence in Muzaffarnagar area of UP Dr Abdullah said,” I am very sad as to what has happened in Muzaffarnagar. He said all of us must be careful as elections are approaching. He said some parties will try and create communal tensions and we should fight those parties strongly. He said India is a diverse country and that diversity has to be protected.
Therefore, I appeal to all the people to maintain communal harmony so that India can move forward. On the question of possible US strike on Syria Dr Abdullah said we do not want war. we do not want conflict. He said there is no need to use methods of violence for solving the matters. It is better to hold dialogue rather than using guns.
