Pradesh Congress Committee Chief Prof Saif Ud Din Soz Friday said there is no need to hold a debate on the contentious issue of Article 370 as it is a closed chapter.
“For congress party it is a closed chapter and there is no need for a debate on Article 370”, Prof Soz told reporters here at Congress headquarters in Jammu on Friday.
Prof Soz said for last 25 years BJP has been raising the issue whenever elections are round the corner.
“There is nothing new in it. BJP talks about common civil code, construction of Ram Temple and Abrogation of Article 370 in their manifesto but my stand is very clear that Article 370 cannot be amended, cannot be abrogated except with the free will of the people of Jammu,Kashmir and Ladakh”.
Soz said no power on earth can abrogate Article 370. He said the Minister who initially made this statement had to retract it.
Soz said my statement restored some calm in the valley when i made it clear that Article 370 cannot be abrogated. He said for the Congress party it is a closed chapter. There is no need for a debate on Article 370. He said the only authority pursuant to constitution of India was the constituent assembly. It concluded its business in 1957 thereafter there is no institution which can go in to this question.
He said Article 370 is a bridge for application of central laws in J&K if this bridge is removed it will be a piquant situation for the state of J&K. Soz said this article is an integral part of constitution of India and no body can change it.
