A day after another sarpanch Ghulam Mohd Lone was killed by unidentified gunmen in Kashmir valley battery of senior cabinet ministers visited his residence and conveyed their heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
Politics of Healing Touch in the state of Jammu Kashmir
The team of ministers and leaders of National Conference were led by Ali Mohd Sagar, senior most cabinet colleague of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Sagar was also accompanied by Minister for Social Welfare Sakina Itoo, Minister of State for Home, Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo, Minister of State for PHE & Irrigation Nazir Ahmad Gurazi along with District Development Commissioner, Pulwama, Shafat Noor and MLA Amira Kadal, Nasir Aslam Wani.
During their stay the ministers handed over a cheque of rupees one lakh as ex-gratia relief to the next of kin of the deceased.
The Ministers directed the District Development Commissioner Pulwama to issue appointment order in favour of the legal heir of the deceased under SRO-43 at an earliest.Sagar directed the concerned Assistant Commissioner Development Pulwama to ensure financial assistance in favour of the deceased family under IAY Scheme.
The Minister for Social Welfare Miss Sakina Itoo has also directed for the release of financial assistance under Rehabilitation Council scheme in favour of the deceased wife of late Sarpanch. The Minister of State for Home, Sajad Ahmad Kitchloo also directed the DIG South Kashmir, Police to appoint the one of legal heirs of the deceased in the department.
The visit of the Ministers and directions passed by them for extending helping hand on behalf of the state government may not be enough but at least it conveyed the sensitivities of the state machinery.
In total contrast to this the same ministers of Omar Abdullah cabinet have ignored the plight of family of Chamel Singh, an Indian farmer brutally tortured to death inside the Pakistan jail on January 15,2003.
It is almost three months now none of the state govt functionary, senior minister, any ruling party legislator has bothered to spare enough time to visit the widow of Chamel Singh and offer any help to the distraught family members.
Three out of the four sons of Chamel Singh are forced to work as daily wage laborers to earn their livelihood.
The state government, till date, has simply washed its hands and have ignored the pleas of the family to extend them a helping hand too.
Through out the budget session a demand was raised by the legislators of BJP, Panthers party and Jammu State Morcha to announce ex-gratia for the kin of deceased Chamel Singh but baring lip service and assurances of matter under consideration nothing concrete happened. The local congress legislator and senior minister are equally guilty of ignoring the plight of the poor family. No one at the helm of affairs have any answers to give as to why they have, till date, not done enough to share the grief of the family whose bread earner was brutally tortured to death inside the jail of the neighboring country and both the state and centre govts have failed in their duty to apply balm on their wounds too.
