A junior police officer was injured near Airport road on wednesday after some of the supporters and followers of Jarnail Singh Bhndrawala thrashed him in the middle of the road to give vent to their ire against the removal of poster put up by some local residents with details of death anniversary congregation on June 6.
The day long stand off lead to complete disruption of traffic on the RS Pura Jammu road near Rani Bagh for several hours causing hardships to large number of common people.
The tension in the area started after sikh youth blocked traffic on the busy road on wednesday morning and started shouting pro Khalistan slogans.
As police personnel were rushed to the spot to lift the blockade the agitating youth tried to attack the police personnel and also pelted stones.
A junior police officer of the rank of Sub Inspector was thrashed by the sikh youth and was saved by his fellow colleagues from the clutches of angry youth.
The local residents alleged the local chowki officer had removed the poster after he found it objectionable.
The local residents alleged when they have been putting up the same poster in the past no such action was taken but today when they found the poster having details of June 6 programme marking the death anniversary of Bhindrawala they decided to hold a peaceful protest demonstration .
The local youth also sought an unconditional apology from the police officer.
The five hour long dharna was lifted by the youth after the intervention of SSP Jammu Uttam Chand a prominent sikh clergy.
