PM Modi to flag-off train to Katra in the absense of Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohd Syeed, Prof Soz

Flagging off ceremony of different rail links of Jammu Udhampur Srinagar Baramulla national rail project has always attracted national headlines and presence of tall leaders belonging to the state of J&K.

Between 2005 and 2013 several rail links were inaugurated and every time Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, senior leaders of the state including Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohd Sayeed, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prof Saif Ud Din Soz and parliamentarians added to the list of prominent political personalities on the main podium during different time periods.

But on Friday when Prime Minister Narendra Modi would flag off the train service on the 25 km link connecting Katra with Udhampur and the rest of the country leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, Dr Farooq Abdullah, Mufti Mohd Sayeed and Prof Sif Ud Din Soz would not be available. Azad and Dr Abdullah after losing Lok Sabha polls have been maintaining a low profile while Mufti Sayeed and Prof Saif Ud Din Soz attended similar functions in the past by virtue of occupying certain posts in the govt and state party unit.



The section from Jammu to Udhampur (53 km) was flagged off by Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on April 13, 2005.

The section from Anantnag to Rajwansher (66 KM) was opened to the public by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 11/10/08.

The section from Rajwansher to Baramulla (35 KM) was inaugurated and dedicated to the nation by the Hon’ble Chairperson of UPA Smt. Sonia Gandhi on 14.02.09.

The section from Qazigund to Anantnag (18 km) was opened to the public by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 28/10/09 The work is in various stages of progress in the balance length from Udhampur to Quazigund.

Modi Katra Train

 According to official sources Union Railway Minister Sadanand Gowda, BJP MP and MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh  Governor NN Vohra and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would form part of main dignitaries along with other leaders.

 After the formal inaugural ceremony Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Srinagar where he would chair a high level security meeting with senior army officers. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is unlikely to attend the meeting.

A national daily Thursday reported, “during the day long visit of Prime Minister no formal meeting is scheduled between Omar Abdullah and the Prime Minister”

“I have no scheduled meeting with the PM during his visit to the state.“I have no idea, because I am not a part of that meeting. I met him in Delhi a few weeks ago and discussed issues regarding the State then,” said Omar while referring to the security review meeting.  
Meanwhile, Omar arrived in Jammu late Thursday ahead of the visit of Prime Minister and reviewed security measures. He is scheduled to receive Prime Minister at Jammu technical airport along with Governor NN Vohra before heading to Katra for the flagging off ceremony.
