PM Modi yet to compensate kin of Indian farmer murdered inside Pak Jail, Chamel Singh in waiting for justice

On Friday morning when Prime Minister Narendra Modi would arrive here to attend birth centenary of Girdhari Lal Dogra a distraught family in Pargwal area of Akhnoor would be eagerly awaiting to hear whether or not Prime Minister would announce promised sum of compensation acknowledging the sacrifice of their lone bread earner.

It is for last more than 29 months poor kin of Chamel Singh, murdered inside Pak jail on January 15, 2013 are awaiting compensation from the state govt and Govt of India.

In the run up to the Lok Sabha polls Narendra Modi had raised the issue of torture meted to Chamel Singh and had accused the UPA govt led by Dr Manmohan Singh of remaining a mute spectator.

Modi had even blamed media for ignoring the plight of Chamel Singh. But even more than one year after coming to power Modi led BJP govt is yet to fulfill their promise.

Kamlesh Devi, wife of Chamnel Singh  said, since last one year i am waiting to see whether Prime Minister Modi will deliver justice and compensate the family of Indian martyr or ignore our plight. Deepak Singh, younger son of Chamel Singh said, we have high hopes from Prime Minister Modi but it seems he has forgotten his own words and so far has not compensated us in lieu of sacrifices made by our father.

After BJP formed govt in alliance with PDP in the state the family of Chamel Singh expected that the local BJP MLA who helped them to bring back the dead body may come to  their rescue but even his efforts have failed to bore fruitful results.

Facing charges of espionage Chamel was set to reunite with his family at the end of completion of five year jail term but before his term ended he was murdered over a petty issue by the jail  inmates and staff members.

Even the dead body of Chamel Singh was not handed over to his family and Indian agencies have to pressurise their Pak counterparts to handover the same after completing the formalities.

His dead body was handed over to his family after a treacherous wait of more than 55 days in  March 2013.Since then successive state and central govt have not paid any compensation to the poor family and left them at the mercy of God.
