Notwithstanding tension along the line of control gathering of more than two lakh devotees of Baba Chamliyal on either side of the Indo-Pak International border in Ramgarh sector near Samba, Thursday paid obeisance at the famous shrine.
Like previous year the Pakistan Rangers avoided direct interaction with the media at the zero line.
An annual feature, the fair brings together officers from neighbouring countries deployed on the international border where Pak rangers hand over ‘Chaddar’ to be laid on the tomb of Baba Chamliyal on behalf of devotees from Pakistan and in return received prasaad of Shakkar and sharbaat for the devotees who anxiously await trolleys to cross over the zero line.
Dressed in colourful dresses,riding on top of the buses and bullock carts devotees of Baba chamliyal thronged the shrine to pay their obeisance since early morning.
Rough estimates suggested over two lakh devotees visited the shrine.
Due to rains the traditional ceremony was delayed a bit.
The Pak officer after attending a warm reception ceremony handedover a green “Chaddar” to BSF officers at the zero line.The two sides exchanged gift wraps and shook hands. Officers of the two sides were at ease while conversing with one another.
The Chadar received from across the border was later who laid on the tomb of the saint by BSF officers.
Large number of devotees who reached shrine of Baba Chamliyal to find cure of their skin ailments were seen taking a bath with the well water after massaging the affected portion of skin with the clay and others carried water in bottles and clay in packets which they had brought with them.
Bhagat Singh and Chand Sharma had come from Jammu to offer prayers at the revered shrine. They said due to the the miracle of clay and water from the shrine area their family members suffereing from skin ailments were cured.Another disciple of baba chamliyal from Haryana said, I visit the shrine each year.He said every time I accompany new patient because I believed in charisma as my own chronic skin disease was cured with the
Baba’s clay and water and then it cured the problem of one of my cousin. “A mela was also organsied near the vicinity of the shrine and large number of devotees climbed muddy points to get a glimpse of the devotees standing on other side of the border.”
