An unidentified infiltrator was killed near the line of control in Soujian sector of Poonch in the wee hours of Monday after he stepped on to the landmine and was blown in to pieces.
According to official sources the incident took place around 4.30 a.m in Soujian sector of Poonch.
According to unconfirmed reports, the infiltrator was believed to have been carrying explosive material on his body and when he stepped on to the landmine before gaining access inside the Indian territory he was blown in to pieces.
In the search and cordon operations launched by the army in the forward area only the head of the deceased infiltrator and one of his leg was recovered from the general area along the line of control.
The Army authorities have not ruled out the possibility of an attack on the forward Indian post and the infiltrator was pushed inside the Indian territory to target the post with explosive material. Meanwhile, the vigil along the line of control has been upped by the field units to foil fresh infiltration bids.
