On a day when victims of Hiroshima Nuclear bombing were being paid homages and remembered by their loved ones on the occasion of 68 th anniversary of the attack tensions escalated between two more nuclear neighbors in the Indian sub continent with the killing of five Indian soldiers near the line of control by the Border Action Team of Pak army in Gulpur area of Poonch.
According to reports, the Border Action Team(BAT) of the Pakistani army early Tuesday morning breached the line of control and ambushed area domination patrol of the Indian army killing five soldiers and injuring another in Gulpur area of Poonch near Sarla post. The attack is sure to escalate tensions in the area and derail the stalled peace process in the region.
The Border action team of Pak army comprising jawans of the 801 Mujahid regiment and heavily armed militants of LeT and JeM attacked the Indian patrol around 2.00 a.m and killed five of them on the spot and injuring one another solider. The deceased belonged to the 21 Bihar Regiment and Maratha Light Infantry,official sources said.
After carrying out the attack the BAT team went back unchallenged inside the Pak territory while some media reports claimed that the group of heavily armed militants may have infiltrated inside the Indian territory.
Hours after the incident both the houses of the Indian parliament witnessed uproar over the issue. The leaders belonging to different political parties cornered the congress led UPA govt over its weak foreign policy and questioned the delay in tackling the Pakistan.
This is the second major provocative act after the Indian solider was beheaded in Mendhar sector of Poonch in January this year.
Defence Minister AK Antony added to the confusion by contradicting the stand of the Indian army by claiming that the group of 20 people who attacked the Indian patrol were dressed in Pakistan army uniform.
However, the statement issued by the Northern Command PRO mentioned that the Pak army regulars were part of the attack team which breached the line of control.In his statement Antony said Pakistani army has breached ceasefire agreement on 57 occasions,which is 80 per cent more than the violations reported last year during the same corresponding period.Antony said the Indian army successfully eliminated 19 hard core terrorists in the recent months of July and August and 17 infiltration bids were foiled along the line of control.
Hours after the uproar in Parliament over the killing of 5 Indian soldiers along the border, India summoned Pakistani envoy and lodged a strong protest at the diplomatic level.
