Omar yet to Step out and Campaign for Rahul Gandhi in Amethi

With just two days left before the campaigning comes to an end  for the penultimate round of polling on May 7 Omar Abdullah is yet to step out of the state to campaign for the alliance partner in any of the VVIP constituency.

Omar who once accompanied Rahul Gandhi to Amethi to learn about the working of Self Help Group is yet to lend helping hand to his close friend locked in a triangular contest between BJP’s Smriti Irani and AAP party’s Kumar Vishwas.

According to insiders in the Congress party the high voltage campaigning in the Gandhi bastion is responding to the presence of Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi alone as the stakes involved are quite high.

” No other leader of the party or other star campaigner has bothered to venture there  in support of Gandhi scion”.

According to party insiders the central leadership had directed the  UP congress unit to shortlist the names of star campaigners and had even listed name of Omar Abdullah as one of the choices but in response the local leaders and party candidates turned down the option of inviting Omar Abdullah for campaigning in  their Lok Sabha constituencies.Even Rahul could not invite Omar due to his busy schedule.

According to local political pundits,” It is very difficult to gauge the mood of the electorate in Amethi this time hence campaign managers of Rahul Gandhi decided against inviting Omar Abdullah for campaigning.

The local residents, influenced by the aggressive campaigning by Kumar Vishwas and Smriti Irani are moving away from the Gandhi family and beginning to ask polite questions what did Amethi got in return for supporting and electing Gandhis election after election.
