Repeated claims made by the Congress MLA GM Saroori with regard to central assistance for quake affected people in Doda region has not gone down well with the National Conference leadership.
Majority of party leaders including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has not relished the idea of speaking out of turn and creating confusion in the minds of affected people for certain vested interests. Ahead of the crucial cabinet meeting which is scheduled to discuss the relief package a battery of state National Conference leaders made public their strong resentment against the Congress MLA and termed his behaviour as unfortunate and misleading.
Talking tough the National Conference leaders Monday issued a joint statement claiming that the statement issued by GM Saroori is totally against the spirit of coalition.
Expressing their displeasure over the conduct of the congress leader in the aftermath of earthquake the NC leaders said it is surprising surprising Saroori is talking about package having been released while the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is requesting the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for the release of the package.
The leaders jointly accused him of playing with the sentiments of the affected people.
Referring to the repeated statements of G M Saroori, MLA claiming that Rs 334 crores had been sanctioned by the Centre for the victims senior National Conference leaders Babu Ram Paul, former minister, Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, Brij Mohan Sharma ex-MLC, Th. Kashmira Singh, ex-MLC, Gurdeep Singh Sasan and Sajjad Shaheen described such irresponsible utterances as playing with the sentiments of the sufferers.
The senior leaders also clarified that this amount is a normal installment allocated to Jammu and Kashmir on account of State Disaster Relief Fund.
“This is not a special relief package for the earthquake sufferers of Doda- Kishtwar and Ramban”, they said while asking Saroori to clarify his stand and come clear over the issue.
The NC leaders advised Saroori not to play to the gallery and rather help in securing maximum possible help for the victims. They also made a fervent appeal to Saroori to join hands in helping the victims in real sense of term instead of making issues out of non-issues and advised him to stop playing politics over the earthquake victims.
The NC leaders appealed the Union Ministers Dr Farooq Abdullah and Mr Ghulam Nabi Azad to use their good offices for getting the demand projected by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah before the Prime Minister expedited. GM Saroori was not available for comments.
