Millitants planning to strike Amarnath yatra: Lt. Gen Parnaik

GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen KT Parnaik  has warned security forces that some of the militant groups were planning to strike the Amarnath yatra starting from June 29.

The army officer said  even though we are receiving intelligence inputs but at the same time it is very difficult to predict the timing and the exact planning of the strike by militant groups.

“We do not know who will strike, from where he will come and at what time, we can only  exercise extra caution and remain in a  state of high alert”.

Lt-Gen Parnaik  shared this concern while he was addressing media conference on the occasion of 42 raising day of the Northern command at Udhampur on Monday.

He also warned against complacency and said it is time to exercise extra vigil to foil such attempts by all the security forces.

He said the officers of  the security grid have been apprised of the security threats to the yatra and have been entrusted with the responsibility of chalking out fool proof security plan to prevent any such strike during the yatra period.

He said the issue also came up for discussion during the meeting of the Unified command and in addition several meetings have been organised to share the inputs and devise a strategy to counter such plans.

He said it is known to all that the the real job of ensuring route security lies with the central paramilitary forces and the state police and the army is primarily deployed near the holy cave to prevent any strike.He said  all the agencies are working in tandem and army is also maintaining over all surveillance to track down the activities of those planning the militant strike. He asked the security forces to  exercise extra caution and remain very cautious in the coming days to foil any attack on the yatra.
Responding to the nature of threat to the pilgrims undertaking the yatra the army officer said, despite making every possible security arrangement  it is difficult to prevent a militant strike amid huge rush of pilgrims. He said our job is to prevent any militant strike and we are on the job and to ensure the success of the operation SHIVA we are laboring hard and maintaining extra vigil.
