GOC-in-C Northern Command Lt Gen KT Parnaik has warned security forces that some of the militant groups were planning to strike the Amarnath yatra starting from June 29.
The army officer said even though we are receiving intelligence inputs but at the same time it is very difficult to predict the timing and the exact planning of the strike by militant groups.
“We do not know who will strike, from where he will come and at what time, we can only exercise extra caution and remain in a state of high alert”.
Lt-Gen Parnaik shared this concern while he was addressing media conference on the occasion of 42 raising day of the Northern command at Udhampur on Monday.
He also warned against complacency and said it is time to exercise extra vigil to foil such attempts by all the security forces.
He said the officers of the security grid have been apprised of the security threats to the yatra and have been entrusted with the responsibility of chalking out fool proof security plan to prevent any such strike during the yatra period.
He said the issue also came up for discussion during the meeting of the Unified command and in addition several meetings have been organised to share the inputs and devise a strategy to counter such plans.
