These days the National Conference leaders are busy propagating details of applications received in the grievance cell set up by the party leadership to solve various day to day problems of common masses and make leaders more accountable.
The initiative of opening grievance cell is credited to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the party president Dr Farooq Abdullah.
The provincial president of Jammu region Devender Singh Rana had also deputed two party men to organise the cell and working hard to resolve the public centric issues. According to the party spokesman an average number of 50 applications are received in the grievance cell on daily basis and in the last three months around 4300 persons/organisations/associations have registered their grievance in the cell.
While all this was done in the name of common residents the National Conference leaders have failed to address the grievance no 1 of all those people who visit the party office in Jammu.
A sing board announcing ‘NO PARKING’ except NC leaders greet visitors as they struggle to find adequate space to park their vehicles near the party office.
Dotted with cars of different models along the street where majority of local businessmen also park their cars during the day, those coming to the party office in their own vehicles find it difficult to get parking space.
Outside the party office it is the leaders of National Conference who enjoy preferential treatment and others are left stranded with little options.
The unique order was issued by the Commissioner,Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC).
Ironically, no such exception has been made for either the leaders of the alliance partner Congress party or other political parties here in the city of temples. The state headquarter building of the Congress party and BJP are located in old city and are devoid of adequate parking space and leaders are left with no option but to park their vehicles in the middle of the busy road.
The opposition parties too are up in arms over the said order issued by the JMC, Commissioner aimed at resolving parking woes faced by only National Conference leaders.
Interestingly, the order has annoyed not only local businessmen but large number of tour operators in the area as they have been debarred from parking their vehicles in the area.
Large number of tourists visiting city of temples assemble outside the taxi stand near Sher-e-Kashmir bahwan to begin their onward journey towards Kashmir or for catching taxi for local sight seeing.
Ever since this order has been issued the taxi drivers have been told not to park their vehicles outside the Sher-e-Kashmir bhawan as the place has been marked out for the NC leaders.
A famous fast food joint in the vicinity has also added to the miseries of the commuters and local businessman who were in the habit of parking their vehicle in the same lane during office hours. The fast food joint has clearly marked out space for its customers disallowing even NC leaders from parking their vehicles in front of their outlet.
It remains to be seen whether the Jammu Municipal corporation would wake up from its deep slumber and uproot the sign board which has allowed the ruling party leaders to take common commuters /tourists for a ride.
