Transfer of Director Information Mukhtar-Ul-Aziz in a span of four days has sparked off fresh controversy  here in the corridors of power.

It was on  October 16 the state cabinet headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had deliberated on the transfer and postings of senior KAS officers and transferred Mukhtar-Ul Aziz on the post of Director Information.

Ironically , even before Aziz could take charge of the office and began his innings  the state govt on Tuesday issued fresh transfer orders shifting him to the Rural Development  Department on the post of Director, Panchayati Raj.

In his place Director Tourism Soujanya Sharma was handed over the charge of Director Information.

Insider reports revealed that on October 17 a senior officer of the Chief Ministers secretariat had visited Chief Secretary Mohd Iqbal Khanday asking him to modify the transfer order by shifting Mukhtar-Ul Aziz from the state Information Department.

According to highly placed sources when Chief Secretary sought some time the senior bureaucrat conveyed to him even Chief Minister was not happy with the posting of the said officer as Director Information.

It is for this reason when few more officers were transferred before the imposition of Model code of conduct the state govt decided to shift Mukhtar-UL Aziz and replaced him with another seasoned officer.
