Balvinder Singh General secretary J&K contractors Coordination Committee strongly condemns the police lathicharge on the peaceful agitating contractors of Kashmir  today on 11/04/2013,  at Press colony Residency road Srinagar who were protesting against the government for not proving funds to clear theirs work done claims/liabilities  amounting to Rs 107 Crores of Jammu and Rs 161 Crores of Kashmir division. Mr singh  while narrating the event  stated that there were approximately 300 contractors assembled at press colony near residency road Srinagar to lodge their peaceful protest against the failure of the  government for not releasing their work done claims but the police lathicharged on the peaceful demonstration of the contractors  and later arrested  Gulam Jeelani Purja chairman JKCCC, Bashir Khan Chief spokesman JKCCC, Riaz ahmad Khan, Mohd. Amin Manzoor Ahmad Wani, Mushtaq Ahmad Para, Sheikh Abdul Rashid, Mohd. Latif thakur and others. This was the part of protest which JKCCC Jammu wing organized on 25th of March this year.

Mr Singh and Mr Vinod kohli both general secretaries JKCCC, said that the Ministers/MLA’s of the coalition Government only lays stress on laying the foundation stones of the new works and puts pressure on the Engineers and contractors for the timely completion of the work, without getting it sanctioned/approval from the competent authority , but never bothered about how the payments shall be made to the contractors. Citing number of cases of the delayed payments, the agitating contractors said that there are many cases where the payments to the contractors are not been made for 4 to 5 years despite the completion of work by the contractors and take over of the possessions of the work/project by the department.

JKCCC warns the Sate govt that if the arrested contractors were not released and the payments of the contractors  are not released immediately then both JKCCC Kashmir and Jammu will start agitation at both the places and will stop all the developmental works and will not allow any MLA or Minister of the coalition government to  start  new work or inaugurate the completed work without clearing the work done liabilities of the contractors.
