A total number of 16 vehicles have been provided to the Chief Ministers secretariat by the State Motor Garages Department while 6 vehicles have been provided to Raj Bhawan, 2 to Deputy Chief Minister, 25 to different courts, at least 2 each to members of council of ministers and their staff.
To ensure smooth movement of VVIPS and senior functionaries of the state govt the state motor garages department also purchased 167 new vehicles of all categories between November 2008 to 2013-14.
According to the Minister Incharge Transport department, the new fleet of cars,Tata Safaris,Mahindra Scorpio,Toyota Innova, Maruti SX4 and other models were allotted to the council of ministers, Raj Bhawan, commissioner secretaries to Government, Chairpersons of different boards, Chief secretary, speaker of the Legislative Assembly and Chairman of the Legislative Council.
According to the written reply tabled in the state assembly in response to a question of PDP MLA Peer Afaq Ahmad, 342 vehicles of SMG department allotted to various officers and also placed at the disposal of various district level officers excluding the HOD’s.
The SMG has a total number of 212 Plain Ambassador cars, 26 Innova,33 Tavera, 26 Scorpio, 38 Bolero, 36 Gypsies,36 Safari, 32 Maruti SX4 in its fleet.
No fuel is being provided by the State Motor Garages Department. The approximate monthly expenditure on account of average maintenance is Rs 1680.
