Jinx of August 6 in the lives of Indian Soldiers

In 2013 Five Jawans were ambushed

In 2014 Four BSF Jawans had a Narrow Escape

On August 6, 2013 five Indian soldiers were ambushed by the Border Action Team of Pakistan army in Chakan-da-bagh area of Poonch.

Tensions were escalated between the neighboring armies and the normal life was disrupted along the line of control before situation was brought to normal after a long time.

On August 6, 2014 three out of four BSF jawans had a narrow escape near International border as engine of their patrolling boat was shut down in gushing waters of Chenab river in Akhnoor sector of Jammu frontier.

One of the BSF jawans was not lucky enough and was swept away by the chenab river to Pakistan.

Till last reports came in the Pak rangers who had detained him in their territory had not handed him to their BSF counterparts.  In the absence of release of BSF jawan the border guards may end up pointing fingers at each other and trigger fresh escalation.

Significantly, BSF authorities will have to do lot of explaining as to how BSF patrol boat suddenly detected a snag in the middle of the river Chenab and endangered the lives of jawans present in the boat. Secondly, it has also raised questions about the modernisation of BSF in Jammu frontier to ensure freak accidents do not take place and lives of jawans are secured.
