The senior leaders of the Congress party in Jammu are in a state of dilemma. For last four days the Power Development Department(PDD) has snapped power supply to their party headquarter pending payment of power bill to the tune of over 17 lakhs of rupees.
Ironically, ever after the passage of four long days the party leaders have failed to take up the matter with the concerned authorities in the PDD nor they have been able to restore the power supply to their office complex. This has resulted in almost zero activity in the party office of the ruling party in the state and has caused lot of embarrassment to the senior party leaders who often meet delegations and party workers from far off places in the party office on daily basis.
At the same time the party leaders believe that the PDD alone cannot go ahead and take such a drastic step of snapping power supply to their party office and the higher authorities may have been backing them and given them the go ahead to do so.
Questioning the working style of PDD the congress leaders referred to the alleged case of power theft involving son of a senior National Conference Minister.
Last year in July when office premises of the company owned by son of NC minister was inspected the team had detected that against a sanctioned load of 5 KW the actual load of the complex was around 95 KW . The inspection team had not found any electronic meter in the compound in Vidhata Nagar area of Bhatindi.
Ironically, no one in the PDD had dared cut the power supply of the installation for fear of getting reprimand from the senior minister or the Chief Minister.
In contrast when relations between the congress and National Conference are worsening with each passing day the PDD headed by Chief Minister has not shied away from snapping the power supply of the congress party office on the eve of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations. On Tuesday the senior party leaders were confused as to how they would organise a function in the party office sans power supply.
The party leaders are not aware as to how to get out of the mess which they find themselves in.The office bearers of the PCC claimed that the PDD had wrongly calculated the bill on flat rate basis without giving them the opportunity to discuss the issue for amicable settlement.
The congress leaders claimed no commercial activity is taking place in the party office yet it appears the PDD had calculated the power bill on commercial rates. On their part the PDD officials have defended their action by claiming that the power connections were disconnected in the ongoing drive to realise power revenues pending for last several years.
