The ‘City of Temples’ is gearing up to host 101 All India Science Congress in the sprawling lawns of Jammu University campus beginning February 3. The mega event scheduled to be inaugurated by the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is expected to attract world famous Nobel laureates and scientists of international repute, academicians, large number of teachers and students.
The theme of the science congress revolves around Innovations in Science and Technology for Inclusive Development. During the session an attempt shall be made to showcase the recent developments in the field of Science and Technology in the country and abroad.
As per rough estimates more than 8000 delegates are expected to attend the science congress over a period of five days.
Elaborate security arrangements would be in place to ensure incident free assembly of scientific minds.
To attract large rush of students and delegates from all centres, University authorities have already declared the names of former Indian president and scientist, A P J Abdul Kalam and Indian origin former American astronaut Sunita Williams as VVIP guests, who have so far accepted the invitations to participate in the Congress.
The congress is being organised under the patronage of Governor of the state and chancellor of the University NN Vohra, chief minister Omar Abdullah in association with Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA).The event is expected to ignite the young minds in the state and provide enough fodder to the juicy minds to carry on with their research work and take advantage of the presence of talented minds around them.
The Science Congress will be the greatest event in the history of Jammu University and will provide a platform for discussion on the recent developments in the field of science and technology in the country and around the world.
The event will have 14 sessions. A special symposia on Jammu and Kashmir titled ‘Science and Technology Imperatives and Opportunities for Sustainable Development of J&K’ will also be held during the event.
Science Collectors’, Meet, Women Science Congress, Children Science Congress, Science Exhibition, a Book Exhibition and the Valedictory Session in 14 different sessions. Conferring of Young Scientist Award is another attraction of the event.
At present the administration of the varsity is busy in making the arrangements for the prestigious event. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure incident free congregation.
The entire city is expected to witness lot of activity during the period and is looking forward to host international and national guests. The event has already given lot of publicity to the city of temples and given boost to the tourism industry as well. The hoteliers and guest houses in and around Jammu are all decked up and getting ready to host the guests.
