With mercury soaring dizzy heights the denizens of Jammu division reeling under acute power scarcity are asking only one question these days. What is our PDD minister and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah doing about power crisis and how soon the situation is going to be resolved?
Till date the Chief Minister has escaped public scrutiny but with each passing day anger is brewing among the local residents about the callous attitude of the PDD as regards supplying uninterrupted power supply across metered and unmetered areas of Jammu.
The situation is even worse in far off district headquarters of Jammu division and border areas as the PDD is shamelessly resorting to long power cuts to strike the balance amid growing demand in urban centres.
The only solace for people living in these hilly areas is that they are not facing the fury of Weather Gods as the people of Jammu are subjected to.
Across these areas local residents were forced to come on the streets and in some cases they even locked down officials of the PDD inside their office chambers to give vent to their ire but failed to get uninterrupted power supply in peak summers to cool their nerves.
Few days ago Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has shared his frustration on the micro blogging site by writing, “Some of us do have a life & responsibilities beyond the IPL but you’d think the world has come to a halt to let the IPL circus continue”. Going by this admission of Chief Minister even after knowing well the current power situation and the percentage supply the Power Minister has done little enough to sooth the nerves of local residents. In contrast he is busy teasing power hungry residents of Jammu with pictures of temperature ratings from inside his luxury car.
Ironically, during the peak winters the same Chief Minister, who never shies away from patting his own back, was seen camping in Srinagar on most of the occasions to restore power lines and directed the authorities to work over time to restore snapped power lines. In case of Jammu division the same Chief Minister is yet to experience the severity of pain of residents of Jammu division.
He is yet to come to their rescue and give an assurance of uninterrupted power supply to beat the intense heat wave conditions. No one is sure whether the Chief Minister would understand that there is life and responsibilities beyond raising the demand of revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act.
