The state cabinet which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah approved the appointment of IAS Officer Iqbal Khanday as Chief Secretary of J&K.

Khanday, 1978 batch IAS officer, took over from the outgoing chief secretary Madav Lal, who has been appointed as secretary to MSME at the Centre.

Madhav Lal was recently appointed as Secretary in the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.


Mohammad Iqbal Khandey, who was promoted to the Fixed Scale of IAS in the month of November last year and appointed as Chief Secretary today, is the 11th State Subject appointed to the top slot after Peerzada Ghulam Ahmad, P N Koul, Syed Muzaffar Aga, Noor Muhammad, Mir Nasrullah, Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, S S Bloeria, Vijay Bakaya, C Phunsog and B R Kundal.
