Dr Farooq Abdullah missing in Action?

Omar offered Eid prayers in the absence of Dr Abdullah

Former Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah is missing in action ever since he has faced drubbing at the hands of PDP leader Tariq Hamid Qarra from Srinagar Lok Sabha seat.

Some attribute Dr Abdullah’s long absence from the political scene due to his poor health while others speculate on possible reasons why the senior Abdullah is shying away from making public appearance too often. Though there is no harm in maintaining a low profile but for quite some time well wishers of Dr Abdullah have started registering his long absence from the public scene.

The energy and charm exhibited by Dr Abdullah every time he is in public domain and in the company of well wishers is some thing we really miss these days. We want to see Dr Abdullah more often taking centre stage but it is not happening, say one of the well wishers of Dr Abdullah who love tracking his political activities and public life.

Interestingly, Dr Abdullahs absence was recorded during EID festivities in Srinagar on Tuesday. Unlike previous years when Dr Abdullah always stood next to his son Omar Abdullah and offered prayers at the famous Hazratbal Shrine on Tuesday he was found missing in action.Significantly, Omar was not accompanied by any other senior cabinet colleague during the EID prayers.

It was not clear whether Dr Abdullah chose to stay away for some genuine health reasons are simply shying away from much awaited public appearance.

Insiders in the National Conference are also tight lipped especially after Chief Minister went public and clarified Dr Farooq Abdullah was not keen on contesting Assembly Polls. It remains to be seen whether Dr Abdullah would be able to reconcile and step out during the election campaign or would chose to stay put inside the fortified walls of his residence, far away from the gaze of well wishers.
