Division bench expresses deep concern over the shocking incident of sexual exploitation of Mentally Challenged Girls

The Division bench of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Monday directed the visually disabled Advocate Suraj Singh to present more documents and additional material within one weeks time in order to widen the scope of petition  in the sexual exploitation case of mentally challenged girls inside Home for mentally retarded.

justiceThe Division Bench comprising Justice Virender Singh and Justice AM Magray after hearing the petition of  Advocate Suraj Singh first expressed deep concern over the ‘shocking’ incident of sexual exploitation and directed him to  present more documents if he wished to widen the scope of High court monitored probe in the case.

It may be mentioned that Advocate Singh had moved an instant letter before the Chief Justice of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court Justice MM Kumar pleading before him to treat his instant letter as Public Interest Litigation and monitor the investigation in the case.

Presenting his arguments before the Division Bench Advocate Suraj Singh had submitted  that the scope of investigations should  be enhanced by involving other state run homes, those managed by different NGO’s,societies etc .He also sought intervention of the state High Court in regulating/administering and formulating new legislation to prevent recurrence of such incidents anywhere in the state.

On giving patient hearing to Advocate Suraj Singh the Division Bench directed him to present more material by next week for extension of the scope of petition in the case.
