Mr. A.K. Sahu, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu took a detailed tour to visit the ongoing works under different Sewerage Packages in Bhagwati Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Janipur etc. First of all he inspected the 30 MLD STP which is nearing completion. Afterwards he came to the site where the laying of 1400 mm dia trunk sewer is held up due to one of electric transmission pole.
The Power development Department has started the work of shifting of existing transmission pole and it is expected that this work is likely to be completed by tomorrow evening. Afterwards ERA will start the laying of 1400 mm dia sewer to complete the gap of 10m and construct the remaining two RCC manholes earliest by the evening of 12th April 2013. He was apprised by the Project Manager, ERA that there is one more gap of about 20m near Gramin Bank. The work on this stretch can be taken up only after the inauguration of fourth bridge, because the existing running manhole is to be cut and the sewer is to be laid in a sliding zone at a depth of about 6m.
DC, Jammu gave his consent to take up the work only when the inauguration of fourth bridge is over, then he visited the Ranbir Canal crossing work which was the main hurdle in the completion of all the sewerage packages. He expressed his satisfaction over the restoration work of Canal Ghat. He then visited the confluence point of Shakti Nagar nallah and Janipur nallah opposite Shakti Nagar Shamshan Ghat where 800 mm dia sewer is to be crossed by the construction of RCC Bridge.
He noticed the amount of solid waste dumped in both the nallahs as well as in the existing syphon constructed below the aqueduct (Ranbir Canal) and asked the JMC Authorities to take up measures to clear the nallahs and the Syphons and educate the local public through publication in newspaper & electronic media.
He instructed ERA Authorities to install coarse screen in both the nallahs and JMC will regularly remove the arrested solid waste. It was also decided that once the syphon is cleared by JMC, chain linked fencing on both sides of culvert will be erected by ERA. After ascertaining the invert levels of the syphon, the work of crossing 800 mm dia sewer over the proposed RCC box bridge will be started in the 1st week of May, 2013.
On this occasion officials of ERA who were present on the site include Jai Gopal Mengi (Project Manager), Sanjeev Kumar Chadha (DPM), T.R. Sharma (APM), R.N. Verma- Team Leader (ERA Consultants), Kapil Sharma – JMC (Joint Commissioner, Adm.), A.K. Gandotra-PHE (Executive Engineer), Rajinder Sharma – UEED(Executive Engineer) beside others.
