Sarpanches of Chatroo block district Kishtwar urged the state government to take immediate measures to ensure relief and rehabilitation of those who suffered due to the recent snowfall, rains and flash floods across the Chatroo tehsil of district Kishtwar.
The meeting was attended by Sarpanch Association Chatroo block Tariq Wani, Sarpanch and Congress block president Chatroo Haji Ghulam Qadir Sheikh, Ghulam Mohammad Reshi, Abdul Gani, Choudhary Nazir Ahmed Sheikh, Bidya Lal, Master Somnath, Abdul Latief, Seva Ram, Abdul Rashid Bhawani, Ghulam Mohammad Naik, Bashir Ahmed Ahangar, Ghulam Mohammad Kohli, Qasim Din, Roshan Lal, Piyaray Lal, Daleep Kumar, Abdul Rashid Raina and Ghulam Mohammad Vice Sarpanch Durbeel expressed grave concern over the incessant snow and rains that have wrought havoc in the Chatroo area and causing colossal damage to property, houses, and water and power infrastructure besides standing crops.
They lauded MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori who visited the Inderwal areas to personally assess the damages to the property due to snowfall beside said on the direction of MLA Saroori the government had initiated survey, assessment of loss in Chatroo area.
Making a special mention of Chatroo, Mugalmaidan, Durbeel, Chingam, Sigdi, Hurna, Mulchitter, Kuchal, Dadpeth and Rahal thal area of Chatroo tehsil, they claimed that hundreds of houses had collapsed resulting in injuries to dozens of people besides loss of several cattle.
They regretted that collapse of residential houses has rendered several families houseless ‘but requisite steps have not been taken by the government to provide shelter to the affected families’.
“There is all round chaos and public outcry which necessitates government action and rehabilitation measures on war footing”, they said and further deplored that the roads in the said areas have been badly damaged affecting movement of vehicular traffic and making it impossible for the injured persons to be shifted to nearby Hospitals.
They also demanded disposal of essential commodities like sugar, kerosene oil, wheat and rice, repaired transformers from their headquarters in snow bound areas of Chatroo.
They called for announcement of a time bound schedule of compensation in view of gravity of the issue.
They also demanded additional Ration for 1400 Ration cards in Chatroo Tehsil besides demanded relief compensation and ration to the earthquake hit people of Chatroo area.
Sarpanches of chatroo block appeal to state government and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori to make provision of alternate accommodation to those rendered homeless and shelter-less due to damage to their houses.
Later all the sarpanches of Chatroo block meet Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Javed Ahmed Khan and presented him the resolution of demands and appraised him the problems being faced by general public of Chatroo tehsil.
DC Kishtwar gave patient hearing and assured sarpanches that their demands would be solved in a phased manner.
