Atleast repair damaged School Buildings to save Children in Doda, Kishtwar

More than three months have passed when an earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale shook the erstwhile district of Doda and left more than 490 school buildings damaged in the area. Since May1 at least 40 shocks, aftershocks and tremors have been reported in the area and from Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Union Health and Family welfare Minister visited the area but even their presence  could not make difference in the lives of local residents in the area. Doda residents continue to wait for the relief/rehabilitation package, pinning all their hopes on PM’s visit to Kishtwar

More than fifty (50) days have passed and  both the state and the centre govt are yet to provide much needed relief material to majority of quake it residents across Doda district. After seeking a central assistance to the tune of Rs 607 crore from the centre govt the state govt, till date, is waiting for the formal sanction of the relief and rehabilitation package. In the absence of any relief material the residents are forced to spend sleepless nights under the cover of plastic sheets over their heads as most of the  houses in remote villages of Doda belt have suffered extensive damages. Rahul Gandhi cancels Doda visit due to ‘bad weather’

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Chenab region has been cancelled due to bad weather and has arrived now in Srinagar. Rahul Gandhi landed at Air Force Station Udhampur today where he was received by Air Vice Marshal Jasbir Walia, VM VSM, Air Officer Commanding Jammu & Kashmir, and Group Captain Devendrea P Hirani, Station Commander Air Force Station Udhampur and other civilian dignitaries. He was scheduled to review the relief measures for earthquake victims in the region. Due to inclement weather his visit was cancelled and further he took off for Srinagar. After a 45 day long wait Rahul Gandhi going to spend 3 hrs precious time with quake hit people in Doda

Finally on Saturday,after a  gap of 45 days, All India Congress Committee Vice President Rahul Gandhi would be sparing little over precious three hours time to visit quake hit areas of erstwhile Doda district. According to official sources Rahul would be reaching Doda shortly after 9.00 a.m via Udhampur and would then visit Budgam after 12.00 p.m along with Union Health and Family welfare Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, Prof Saif Ud Din Soz and AICC leader Mohan Prakash. ‘Earthquake Tourism’ is fine but what happened to the distribution of relief material to the needy and poor in Doda

Between May 1 and June 9 a large army of political leaders from both the centre and the state have visited the quake hit areas of erstwhile Doda district but till date the poor and the needy survivors are waiting for the distribution of relief material. An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale jolted the Doda region in  which 3 people were killed, over 70 were injured  and at least over 70,000 structures including large number of govt school buildings and health centres suffered damages. After series of aftershocks rocked quake hit hilly Doda and Kishtwar districts now politics of distributing relief material and sanctioning aid for the affected people has taken centre stage adding to the miseries of affected people. A 5.8 magnitude earthquake that jolted Jammu and Kashmir and North India earlier in the day on Wednesday has raised the expectation of more aftershocks. Action against defaulter contractors, 30 work orders terminated in Erstwhile Doda

Minister for Roads & Buildings Mr. Abdul Majid Wani today said that the government would go tough against the contractors who disregard the laid down conditions for the works allotted to them. Speaking at a meeting, while reviewing the financial and physical status of on-going projects being executed under PMGSY and R&B sector in   Erstwhile Doda District here today, he ordered to blacklist all those contractors who have failed to meet the prescribed norms and the set deadlines.
