Justice Tirath Singh Thakur was on Thursday sworn in as 43rd Chief Justice of India by President Pranab Mukherjee at an elegant function in Rashtrapati Bhavan. The senior-most judge of the apex court, 63-year old Justice Thakur took over from incumbent Justice H L Dattu who retired on Wednesday. As a Supreme Court judge, he headed the bench which had delivered the verdict to reform cricket controlling body BCCI in the wake of allegations of betting and spot-fixing scandal in the Indian Premier League. A Parliamentary Committee has asked Jammu and Kashmir Government to examine a demand for granting minority status to Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) in view of their “pitiable condition” after they were forced to leave the Valley due to militancy. A similar view was also expressed by Chairman of National Commission for Minorities (NCM) Wajahat Habibullah, who said the State Government had been advised to declare Kashmiri Pandits as minorities. Pak violated ceasefire on more than 400 times in last one decade since Nov 2003

In the last one decade ever since the ceasefire agreement was signed between India and Pakistan on November 26, 2003 the Pak army has spent over one year time in violating it. According to official sources the ceasefire agreement has been breached on more than 400 occasions since November 2003 till date. Official sources said  after November 2003  the first ceasefire violation took place on January 18, 2005 in Poonch sector. Two days after another ceasefire violation was reported and since then the violations have recorded an upward trend.
