Sanitation in J&K among the worst in India, ranks 3rd; 96 % of Swachh Bharat money unspent

Sanitation in Jammu & Kashmir is among the worst in India, with more than 54 per cent of more than 1.2 million households without toilets and the 2014-15 target for household latrines falling short by 86 per cent, according to government data. While J&K is ranked third, the two worst states are Odisha and Bihar, according to the Baseline Survey 2012 of the union ministry of drinking water and sanitation. J&K police will purchase 1,000 bullet proof jackets and helmets to protect the forces, after the recent CAG reports that pulled up the state for poor police infrastructure. “We have floated e-tenders to purchase 1,000 bullet proof jackets and helmets to arm cops with protections. The tenders have been from original manufacturers or their authorized dealers for the supply of these security items,” Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Provision and Transport, police headquarters said. As per the tender notice, the state police has asked for supply of 500 bullets proof jackets and 500 bullet proof helmets.
