The sympathisers of the Progressive Students Association (PSA) in Jammu University are currently under the scanner even as uneasy calm prevails in the campus five days after the PHD scholar Kapil Shastri was beaten up by the President of the Gujjar-Bakerwal Students Association (GBSA) Talib Hussain along with large number of unidentified miscreants.
Large number of students and senior faculty members apprehend repeat of similar incidents if the Jammu University authorities failed to check the menace of miscreants roaming free in the campus despite claims of tight security arrangements.
A high-level inquiry committee constituted by the University authorities are under pressure from various quarters to tone down the findings of the probe in order to safeguard the interests of members belonging to a particular community.
The common interests of large number of students associated with PSA and GBSA,President Talib Hussain is a cause of concern for the university authorities entrusted with the responsibility of restoring order on the campus. The history of PSA members and students associated with it has already triggered tensions in the university campus on number of occasions and this time too the senior faculty members are apprehending more trouble on the campus if situation was not brought under control at an appropriate time.
Majority of students on the university campus believed that the clash was triggered not because Kapil Shastri had objected to the closure of the campus gates by PSA and GBSA activists but they see a sinister design behind such activities.
The Jammu University authorities privy to the secretive activities of the PSA members and their allegiance to a political ideology are in no mood to provide them a long handle to reactivate their network and spread tentacles.
