Army vehicle targeted in Anantnag grenade blast, 7 people including policeman injured

Even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has not stopped raising the demand for revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from peaceful districts of the state the militant commanders have started regularly targeting army vehicles and security installations in Kashmir valley.

With in a gap of 48 hours a second incident of grenade blast was reported in Anantnag on Tuesday raising many an eyebrows in the security establishment.

Intelligence agencies are already expecting spurt in the incidents of militant violence after the swearing in ceremony of PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad.

In both the incidents the unidentified militants tossed up a grenade aimed at security establishment and ran away taking cover under the rush of local people.

On Tuesday afternoon when the life wa smoving at its own pace an unidentified militant targeted a passing by army vehicle in the main Anantnag market by tossing a grenade in which 7 persons including a policeman was injured as the grenade missed the target.

Earlier on Sunday evening a grenade was hurdled on Sherbagh Police Station which exploded in the compound of Police station but no one was injured in this explosion.

According to official sources, suspected militants hurled a grenade targeting army vehicle in the Lal Chowk of Anantnad on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Defence PRO Naresh Vij said, “At around 12.30 one army vehicle of 1-sector RR was on the way when unidentified militants hurled grenade on the roof top of the vehicle which fell and exploded on the ground. Several civilian were injured including a police man. However the explosion damaged the vehicle partly”.

According to ground reports the grenade explosion created panic in the area and people were seen running for cover. Strong posse of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) reached the spot and cordoned the area and carried out search operation.

The injured persons have been identified as Dr Mohamed Ibrahim S/o Abdul Rehman of Sarnal Anantnag, head constable Mohamed Abdullah Bhatt S/o Abdul Razak Bhat of Keran, Mubark Ahmad Sheik S/o Gulzar Ahmad Shiek of Dundilura Kukernag, Imtiyaz Ahmad S/O Abdul Gani R/O Manghal, Firdous ahmad Deka S/O Mohmed Ramzan Dekha R/O Divso deksum Kokernag, Mohmed Ashraf Wani S/O Gh Rasool wani R/O Daksan and Imtiyaz Ahmad Malik S/O Gh Rosool Malik R/O Keven Lasipora.
