Amid escalating tensions along LoC, Pak Wrestlers not invited to play Kushti in Katra

The ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan has  led to the ouster of the Pakistan wrestling team from the famous wrestling competition held every year during the Navratra festival in Katra.

The President of the Indian Style Wrestling Association (J&K ) Shiv Kumar Sharma Thursday told reporters that in view of the tension along the LOC in J&K the association decided against inviting team from Pakistan to participate in the Kushti Maha Kumbh scheduled to begin on October 11 in Katra.

Sharma said since 2005 the Pak team participated in all the events but this year we have decided against inviting them.

Sharma said we respected the sentiments of the general public as  the mood of the masses was totally against the neighboring country owing to series of incidents along the line of control and recent fidayeen attack where our soldiers were killed and innocent civilians lost their lives.

Sharma said to make the event more interesting and competitive famous wrestlers from England, Belarus, and Ukraine have been invited to participate in the 4 Nationals wrestling competition. He said famous wrestler Sagaliuk Liubomyr from England, Hryhorii Shule from Belarus and Mykhalio Datsenko from Ukraine are expected to participate in the competition.
