Since 2002 the Congress party is enjoying perks of power and shaped the policy of the state governments headed by Mufti Mohd Sayeed, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Omar Abdullah.
But for last couple of days ever since star campaigner of the party and former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has embarked on election campaign in erstwhile district of Doda he has been harping on the agenda of development in the region and seeking vote from people on the past performance of his govt in the state.
In his public speeches Azad has been appealing to the electorate to vote congress party candidates if they want to see Doda region developed as Model region.
To woo the electorate Azad is also making tall promises with the electorate if voted to power, Chenab Valley will be converted into “model region” with excellent roads, power projects, attractive tourist infrastructure, health facilities, educational institutions, employment opportunities, and above all inter-community faith and harmony which unfortunately has come under threat of late.
Ironically, Azad is not presenting the poor report cards of his party colleagues who represented the congress party in the successive state govts since 2002 and explaining the reasons behind poor road network, poor state of health institutions and lack of employment opportunities in the region.
Drawing attention of the people towards the conspiracies being hatched by vested interests to stall the process of development in the land locked districts by dividing them, Azad said that at this critical juncture it is incumbent upon the people to exercise their vote with sagacity and maturity in order to maintain their relevance and status on the political landscape of the State.
