Insensitive Information Dept. first said, “CM sanctions 1 lakh for ‘one person‘ of Kathua District who has lost his life in Uttarakhand natural calamity”
One hour later does a U turn and claimed CM sanctions 1 lakh for Bhim Singh of Bobiya village in Kathua.
After waiting for nine long days generous Omar Abdullah has finally sanctioned compensation of 1 lakh to the family of ITBP Inspector Bhim Singh.
The announcement by the Chief Minister interestingly coincided with the visit of National Conference Provincial President Devendra Singh Rana to the house of ITBP Inspector Bhim Singh in Bobiya Village of Kathua. Rana accompanied by several party leaders condoled the demise of the braveheart and also assured to take up the issue of raising a memorial in the memory of brave officer who sacrificed his life in the line of duty in Kedarnath valley in the rescue chopper crash incident.
On June 25 when the IAF was on the verge of calling off the rescue operations after shifting the stranded pilgrims and performing the last rites of dead pilgrims the rescue chopper with 20 rescue workers on board were killed in the fatal crash. After waiting for three long days when the dead body of the deceased arrived here in Hiranagar and the last rites were performed with full state honours none of the representatives of the state govt barring local MLA and one MLC and security personnel were present. The angry villagers had expressed their displeasure as the Chief Minister failed to spare enough time to offer sincere condolences to the family of the brave officer.
But on Wednesday when the state information department circulated the condolence message of the Chief Minister they only exposed the insensitive behavior of the ‘babus’ handling such subjects.
According to press statement circulated by the state Information department No: PR/DI/13/2697/ , “Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has sanctioned Rs. One lakh for one person of Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir State who has lost his life in Uttarakhand natural calamity.
The Chief Minister in a condolence message to the family of the deceased has also conveyed his sympathy and prayed for peace to the departed soul.No where in the condolence message the name of the deceased was mentioned not his sacrifice was acknowledged. Interestingly, the official handout issued by the state information department had not even mentioned that Bhim Singh sacrificed his life while saving lives of other pilgrims during rescue operations. They had passed him as victim of the flash floods
Realizing their own mistake almost one hour later the state Information department reissued the statement saying Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah has sanctioned Rs. One lakh for Bhim Singh of Bobiya village of Hiranagar in Kathua District of Jammu and Kashmir State who has lost his life while saving pilgrims in Uttarakhand natural calamity without mentioning the fact that he was on deputation to NDRF and was serving as ITBP Inspector before joining the NDRF in Noida.
